Uruguayan poetess Ida Vitale wins “Queen Sofia Poetry Award”.

The 91-year-old poetess is one of the most emblematic voices in Spanish literature of the last decades.

Considered, the “Cervantes Award of Poetry”, the “Queen Sofia Poetry Award” has been granted this year to Ida Vitale and is worth more than 42,000 Euros following the jury’s unanimous decision.

Vitale lives in Austin, Texas since 1989 with her husband Enrique Fierro (also a poet) but she travels to her hometown Montevideo, Uruguay. She also works as translator from French and Italian and has translated the works of authors such as Simone de Beavoir, Benjamin Peret, Gaston Bachelard and others.
