Marcos Chicot –author of “El asesinato de Pitagoras" (Killing Pythagoras) and “La hermandad" (Lord of minds)– wins Literary Award

Marcos Chicot has been awarded the Francisco Umbral Prize for the Novel, as well as the Rotary International Prize for the Novel. He has also been a finalist for the Max Aub Prize, the Juan Pablo Forner Prize, the Ciudad de Badajoz Prize and the Planeta Prize.

Chicot has published El asesinato de Pitágoras  (Killing Pythagoras), the best selling ebook in Spanish in the world in 2013, La Hermandad (Lord of Minds) (2014), and El diario de Gordon (Gordon’s Diary), awarded the Francisco Umbral Prize for the Novel).  He donates 10% of what he earns from his novels to organizations that help persons with disabilities.

Besides being a writer, he is a clinical psychologist and an economist, who, when his daughter Lucía was born with Down’s Syndrome in 2009,  set aside his professional life in order to dedicate himself exclusively to writing a historical novel that would serve to financially secure the uncertain future of his daughter.

Three years later, he completed the novel El asesinato de Pitágoras (Killing Pythagoras). He entered the novel for 2012 Planeta Prize, where it was one of the finalists. Yet, in spite of the acclaim of the panel, because of the economic crisis and his being an unknown author, Planeta decided not to publish it.  In April 2013, the novel was made available on-line. By the following month, it has reached No. 1 on Amazon, position where it stayed for eleven consecutive months, and became the best selling ebook in Spanish in the world in 2013. After a month of being No. 1, he began receiving publishing offers from the world over, and he signed a contract with Mauri Spagnol, the second largest Italian publishing group.  In 2013-2014, the novel was published in a print version to wide public acclaim in Spain, Italy and Latin America.  The translation rights have already been sold in a half-dozen languages. The translation into English Killing Pythagoras is already available in electronic format (ebook).

He has just published his second novel in English titled Lord of Minds, or La Hermandad in Spanish.  This is a thriller that interpolates past and present, where the brain and its limits is the background theme, and where Mensa, the society for geniuses, plays a relevant role.  Chicot’s novels are always based a great amount of research, and besides being entertaining, they allow the reader to learn about real concerns, an element which the public has repeatedly lauded.
