Oscar-winning actor reveals admiration for García Lorca and García Márquez

Eddie Redmayne, Oscar winner as best actor for his role in “The Theory of Everything” is this month's America Read Spanish's Amigo del Español. In this interview the English actor talks about his literary preference and confesses that even though his Spanish is very poor, he wants to improve.

Thanks to his brilliant portrait of Stephen Hawking, the physicist who was afflicted with Lou Gehrig’s disease in his 20s, was given two years to live, now 72, Redmayne not only won the Oscar, but had the privilege to meet Hawking. “I had this fear of “What if I meet him and he’s not who I think he is?” Fortunately, when I met him, he was just the most vibrant and witty man, and he had a razor-sharp humor. But he’s also a powerful man. He runs the room. Even though he can say very little, you get an absolute sense that he’s in control.”
