Juan Goytisolo wins the 2014 Cervantes Literature Prize

The Spanish author won the highest literary honor for Spanish-speaking writers “for his inquiry and investigations on language and for his complex style, developed in different literary genres,” according to the jury.

“The 83 year old writer is considered one of the most prolific Spanish writers and one of the most important post-civil war novelists. Some of his most celebrated novels are Marks of identity, Count Julian and Juan the Landless,” reports Telesur. “Exiled from Almost Everywhere, written six years ago, is Goytisolo’s last novel, since he announced he was not going to write novels anymore. Nevertheless he kept writing essays and poetry, and his last book published is a poetry anthology, Burning, Ashes and Forgetfulness."
