“The Boxcar Children” mystery ebooks are now available in Spanish

The unforgettable children’s literature series, which has sold over 50 million copies and has 130 titles, is available for the first time on ebook format to Hispanic readers.

In late July, the ebook imprint Open Road Español published three titles of the classic children’s literature series The Boxcar Children, including Surprise Island, The Yellow House Mystery, and the eponymous book that started it all, The Boxcar Children. On September 30, the imprint will publish two new ebooks from the same series: Mike’s Mystery and Mystery Ranch.

In late 2010, Albert Whitman & Company, the publisher of the print versions of the books in English, created a strategic partnership with Open Road Integrated Media to publish The Boxcar Children Mystery series in ebook format. Now, through its newly created Spanish imprint, Open Road Español, launched in early March of this year, the publisher begins to release The Boxcar Children Mystery books in Spanish as well, under the translation of Los chicos del vagón de carga. With this initiative, along with the publication of nine ebooks of the famous writer Robert Munsch, Open Road Español broadens its children’s literature offering, a category with a high demand among Hispanics.

First published in 1942, the famous children’s series tells the story of four orphaned children who make themselves a house in an abandoned boxcar until they find their grandfather, who generously takes them in. Each book recounts the adventures and mysteries the children encounter in their neighborhood and at the tourist destinations they visit with their grandfather.

The Boxcar Children Mystery books are sold in major digital retail stores worldwide, including Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Kobo, the iBookstore, Google Play, and BajaLibros. More information on The Boxcar Children Mystery is available here.

About The Boxcar Children Mystery

The author Gertrude Chandler Warner published the first title of The Boxcar Children Mystery over a half century ago, and since then wrote almost 20 more. After her death in 1979, children around the country began requesting more books, so other writers continued the story of Henry, Jessie, Violet, Benny, and Watch, the fox terrier that always keeps them company. Currently, the series is composed of 130 books.
