Synopsis

A young shepherd is accused of committing a triple homicide in the farmstead in Extremadura where his family has worked as servants for generations. His only defense is the unshakeable testimony of his elderly grandfather, who reveals a brutal story of intrigue, subjugation, eroticism, and vengeance, in which masters and servants are both witnesses and protagonists.

In a time in which the Spanish Civil War shredded the existence of winners and losers, the tale of an old potter who does not give up in the face of injustice will open wounds that have yet to heal and will question the moral foundations of the rural Spanish aristocracy. Awarded with the Azorín Novel Prize in 2000, Clay Skies is a thrilling work, written with the intelligence of one who dominates the difficult art of engrossing the reader in the story. An essential novel for understanding the past of a battered country, which had to rescue itself however it could from its own demons.
