Vicente Aleixandre

A Spanish poet born in Seville in 1898, Aleixandre spent his early childhood in Málaga before moving with his family to Madrid in 1909.

He published his first book, Ámbito, in 1928, following that up with Espadas como labios, Pasión de la tierra, Sombra del paraíso, Mundo a solas, Nacimiento último, Historia del corazón, Poemas de la consumación and Diálogos del conocimiento.

A professor of commercial law and member of the Royal Spanish Academy since 1949, Aleixandre was one of the great poets of the 20up>th century.

He received the National Literature Prize in 1934 and was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1977. Aleixandre died in 1984 in Madrid.
