The philosopher José Luis Pardo wins the Anagrama Prize for Non-Fiction

“Estudios del malestar (Studies in Malaise), the winning book, rakes over the ashes left behind by the economic crisis.

Estudios del malestar. Políticas de la autenticidad en las sociedades contemporáneas (Studies in Malaise: the politics of authenticity in contemporary societies) by José Luis Pardo, has won the 44th Anagrama Prize for Non-Fiction, awarded by the Barcelona-based publisher. Contra el tiempo. Filosofía práctica del instante (Against Time: practical philosophy of the moment), by the Mexican philosopher Luciano Concheiro, was selected as a finalist.

Anagrama’s statement announcing the winner includes a précis of José Luis Prado’s work: “The economic crisis ended the flow of the principle fuel for the money and dream factories, leaving behind it a gloomy panorama of houses with no buyers, airports with no planes, newspapers with no readers and hospitals with no doctors.” The essay rakes over the ashes of the prosperity enjoyed by countries like Spain 10 years ago.”
