Three ‘unsettling’ women win the Llibreter Prize

“Alicia Kopf, Lucia Berlin and Francesca Sanna win the prestigious awards. The three winners of the 17th Llibreter prize are united by a rebellious, unsettling view of the world.

The winning books were Germà de gel by Alicia Kopf (Catalan Fiction), Manual per a dones de fer feines by Lucía Berlin (Other Literatures) and El viaje (The Journey) by Francesca Sanna (Children’s Books).

The awards, given by the Booksellers Union of Catalonia, offer two of the best qualities a literary prize can enjoy today: works of great and contrasting literary quality and a sure-fire boost in sales, facilitating their relaunch in bookshops.

Of course, it all makes publishers very happy, but this is especially true of the editor Eugènia Broggi at L’Altra Editorial given that she published both Kopf and Berlín’s work in Catalan, representing the first time in the history of the prize that a single publisher has won both major awards for adult literature.”
