Writer Carme Riera, awarded with Spain's National Literary Award.

Riera is recognized by Spain's Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports for the "high quality of her writings in Catalan and Spanish languages, which combine literary creation with research and divulgation, a multifaceted work with universal repercussion".

"Carme Riera who is the President of Cedro, an entity that protects intellectual property, will be awarded with a 40,000 Euros prize as result of this literary Award.

Riera (born in Palma de Mallorca, 1948), is overall a narrator and essayist who writes mostly in Catalan but most of her works have been translated to Spanish. She becomes the fourth woman who has received this award, following the steps of Rosa Chacel (1987), Carmen Martin Gaite (1994), and Ana Maria Matute (2007)."
