Interview with Carmen Clara Balmaseda

The author from Badajoz (Extremadura) has just published her second novel "Donde se queman los hombres" in AdN (Grupo Anaya). Despite having published only two works, this teacher of Language and Literature, ..

has revealed herself as a writer of strong convictions and many literary interests that have kept us in suspense throughout the plot.

Balmaseda has surprised us for the laborious and thorough research she has done of one of the darkest and saddest periods of the Spanish history of the twentieth century, and all from episodes that some relatives, mainly her grandmothers, and friends related to her. Her goal was to immerse the reader in close and little-known happenings of that recent history.

In its pages, conflicts are revealed, both inside the family and in other relationships. Strong feelings such as guilt, especially, those of one of the protagonists, Julián, a homosexual who is on the side of Franco.
